Reader information
Privacy & external content
The comparison stays in your browser. External destinations have their own practices.
Address comparison and checklist
The address comparison tool processes the text you enter in your browser. It does not submit that text to the publisher, visit the destination, or save the input in browser storage. The checklist does not submit or persist its answers. Your browser may retain page or form state as part of its own behavior.
Directory filtering happens on the current page without sending your search terms. Copy buttons write the selected address to your clipboard only when pressed.
Video players
YouTube embeds are not loaded until you press a video’s load button. Loading a player contacts YouTube through its privacy-enhanced embed domain; that shares connection information and the site’s origin with YouTube and is not a promise of anonymous playback. A direct YouTube link also takes you to a third-party service.
Ordinary visits
The supplied Fieldguide theme and kit do not add analytics, advertising, remote fonts, or tracking pixels. Hosting providers, security services, WordPress accounts, and separately installed extensions may process connection data or use cookies. Their actual configuration determines those practices.
Email and external websites
If you email the publisher, your email provider and the receiving provider handle your message. Include only the information needed to explain the issue. Onion destinations and download publishers are separate services with their own operators and practices.

Time machine, illustrations & video previews
The time machine changes the visible historical scene in the current page. Its chapter loop runs while the section is in view. You can pause or resume it, and reduced-motion preferences disable automatic playback by default. It does not record your selected year or transmit interaction data. Editorial illustrations and tutorial preview images are served as local site assets. Choosing a video load button creates a YouTube player; following a publisher link opens that publisher’s website.
